Dr. H's Classes

This BLOG is primarily for dialogue between me and my students in the English Department at UNCW, but other voices are welcome, as long as mutual respect prevails. At the university, we find ourselves in the midst of a conversation already in progress. We learn from reading scholarly articles in academic journals, but we also learn from each other as we expand the dialogue--agree and disagree--ebb and flow--call and response. It's like JAZZ! SYNCOPATION! SERENDIPITY! BRICOLAGE! Join the music.

About Me

Joyce C. Tingle Hollingsworth
I teach English at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Updating in January 2009, we're starting a fresh new semester. I'm teaching two sections of Introduction to Literature, and one each of World Lit since 1600 and Approaches to the Study of Literature. I hope to post about each of these courses from time to time, and I am encouraging students to start their own and to communicate with me and each other. But, as with a journal, I find long periods of time when I don't post as the pace picks up. As this blog begins in July 2008, I have just finished courses in Women in Literature and Children's Literature. I also teach World Lit, British Lit, Intro to Lit, Approaches to the Study of Literature, and History of Theory and Criticism, et al. My students constantly lead me into dynamic new areas of thought about literature and life. I have the best job in the world. I also have a great family and am part of a family business my husband started in Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington, North Carolina over thirty years ago. Old? Not me!
